Trains stations

During more than a hundred of years, even the most insignificant habitated area in the United States had a depot which linked it to the rest of the world. At the peak of railroad transportation, dozens of thousands of depots, railroad stations and terminals served thousands of trains daily.

The railroad station and depot of the Middle West and the Wild West were going to make the city. It was the passage for the railroad and it was necessary to have depots every eight miles, to provide locomotives with water and coal, which structured the planning of the territory. Stops were named after the names of the workers of railroads or names of the first pioneers living in the area. Certain stops were developed in the city; a tiny part accommodated thousands of inhabitants thanks to the construction of a railroad complex built for the provisioning and maintenance of trains or thanks to the discovery of ores (coal, gold, silver ...).

A standard railroad station received passengers, freight, express shipments, as well as combining other functions such as being the local telegraph office. The size and the styles of the railroad stations depended on its frequenting. Each railroad company created is own image. Numerous newspaper articles tell of the importance of this building for the community and the insistence to have a new depot which reflects the status of the city. The station was the heart of the city and a platform for exchange.
